Description

Leaving grief unattended is comparable to leaving a baby crying for hours; the baby will eventually get tired and stop crying, but the consequences in the long term of that trauma could be devastating. A myth says that when we surrender to grief and let it go through us, we won't be able to come back from that, and the truth is actually the opposite. Coming back from grief is easier when we surrender to it, setting a time each day to be in that feeling and knowing that the more we push grief down and try to ignore it, the stronger it'll come back.

Joining us today is Grace Bella Harman, Dance/Movement Therapist & Embodied Grief Guide. Grace understands that grief is a sacred space for people to use their bodies to move through, process, and be transformed by grief. Her work is based on the belief that grief is a sacred and embodied process that requires awareness and an intentional physical engagement to process and integrate.

In this episode, we talk about the misconception of treating grief as an intellectual process, ignoring the role of the physical and emotional part of it. Grace shared her most compelling grief story, her mother's death, what she learned from it, and how she dealt with that terrible loss. We discuss the tendency in our society to treat grief as an intellectual process that time heals. We also talk about surrendering to grief, allocating time in our days for it, and looking at grief as a never-ending pool of inspiration.

Tune in and listen to episode 15 of Growing Through Grief, and let yourself get inspired by Grace and her kind and deep knowledge of grief.
