Sarah Sproule is not only looking to work with parents to help remove embarrassment around sex education with her schools workshops but she is looking to help a generation to lean in to uncomfortable topics, bring about more self acceptance and ultimately more compassion for ourselves and others.
Today we talk about the current school curriculum and how it still only focuses on reproduction and heterosexual couples and starts in 5th and 6th class. There is still no discussion of same sex, non binary or even sex for pleasure and contraception. Shame and stigma has created so many issues within our society and these two sadly still feature so often when it comes to sexual health which is as natural as our digestive or circulatory system!
If you still remember 'the talk', if you're a parent who dreads or struggles to broach the subject Sarah will inform and inspire you to chill out about everything from online porn to puberty. She wants to help raise kids who can respect themselves, speak up for what it right and respect the people around them. There is no need for us to be embarrassed about this stuff anymore!
I was interested in Sarah and her work but once we spoke I was blown away by the conversation and how intrinsically linked all of this is in how we feel about ourselves and how we go through life. This is so much bigger than just 'the birds and the bees' (what does that even mean?? - Sarah does not use that term) She is an incredible Changemaker, you will be moved by this conversation, I still roll it around in my head. It's an eye opener.
