Never are we ever prepared for a player's retirement. But literally nobody could have prepared for Ashleigh Barty's retirement. The World No. 1 was arguably the most dominant female player since Serena Williams, staying at the top of the game for 120 weeks and winning Wimbledon, Roland Garros, and, her last tournament as it turned out, the Australian Open in 2022. What could we say, all the exciting rivalries that could be, are no more, including more of Iga Swiatek, Naomi Osaka and Aryna Sabalenka matchups. But, we also recognize that she is doing that after finding it is the right time for her to do so, and pursue new dreams and challenges.
Wishing all the best and best bagels for Ash Barty in the next chapters!
