“This jersey means more to me than anything else I have worked on. I still feel that way.”

Welcome to the Field of Design Podcast, for your news stories and nonsense from the sport apparel and sports creative industry.

It's not very often an NRL jersey makes international news. Not very often at all. As our returning listeners will know, our co-host Kit is the Head Designer at Dynasty Sport, the apparel partner for the Manly Sea-Eagles. Kit was part of a small group at Dynasty driving this project and in fact the artist who developed the first Pride Jersey in the NRL. When the jersey was revealed, 7 players from the squad refused to wear the jersey citing 'cultural and religious beliefs'. This caused a firestorm with the administration and playing group within Manly and ofcourse the media and NRL community, with opinons being thrown from media personnel everywhere including the very diverse* cast on the fox sport lineup. After allowing some time for the dust to settle (for now) Kit talks us through how the jersey came to be, what it meant to him and the rollercoster of thoughts and emotions he had in the days following the announcement.

*not

Kit's views are of his own and not of his employers, coworkers or corporate partners of his employer, including the Manly Sea Eagles.

We at Field of Design are unanimous in our support for challenging harmful social cultures against all who identify within the LGBTQIA+ community.
