Ever wondered why the movies always show women eating ice cream from the tub when they’ve been dumped, when in reality when you’re heartbroken you can’t eat a thing? In the second episode of Life in Food with Laura Price, I speak to Jessie Stephens, co-founder and host of the hilarious pop culture podcast Mamamia Out Loud and author of the non-fiction book Heartsick, about Food and Heartbreak. The discussion covers everything from what happens when we're dumped in our favourite restaurants and pubs to revenge diets and healing through food.

About Jessie Stephens: Jessie is a Sydney-based writer and podcaster with a Masters degree in History and Gender Studies. She co-hosts the brilliant and hilarious Mamamia Out Loud podcast, covering everything from pop culture to politics, feminism to fashion. For UK listeners, her podcast is like the Australian equivalent of The High Low with Pandora Sykes and Dolly Alderton, which is very high praise indeed. In 2021, Jessie published her first book, Heartsick, a collection of three non-fiction stories about love and loss and what happens in between.

About the host: Laura Price is a multilingual journalist who travels the world writing about restaurants. A proud Yorkshire lass at heart, she spent several years in Latin America before settling in London with her two cats. Her first novel, Single Bald Female, is inspired by her experience of being diagnosed with breast cancer at 29. A novelist by day and a food writer by night, Laura combines her two passions into this podcast, bringing out powerful stories of survival and healing in a language that everyone understands – food.

Life in Food is hosted, produced and edited by Laura Price.
