My Biographical Story to Qigong (In German as well)

I was born in 1961 in Durban, South Africa. My childhood and adolescence were shaped by the wilderness of the Indian coast, the dense foliage, wildlife, nature, and roaming the vast spaces between Zimbabwe and South Africa.

But the most important life lessons were taught to me by my incredible parents: they were the YIN and YANG of my upbringing.

My father was a sports whiz and my mother the softer energy flow of the spiritual and the elasticity of movement in everything she did or touched. An incredible life force of yoga, meditation and African medicine. She spoke the local Zulu language with a fluency that very few Europeans could speak during that period of the Apartheid regime.

My first rough lesson in life, before I could walk, was when my father, a deep sea spear diver, threw me into the Indian Ocean. He was trying to get me to swim naturally in the shark-infested water! His incredible instincts knew it was safe for his young daughter. His homemade spear was always ready from the boat.

And that was the beginning of my training in the ancient traditions of martial arts, Japanese Katana Sword skills, meditation, yoga, qigong, tai chi in all its wonderful and spiritual forms. I was taught how to make a homemade spear, how to practice the ancient skills of the Katana Sword, how to use bamboo sticks of different lengths and sizes for coordination and concentration. My father was a second dan karate master and a pioneer in deep sea diving and spear fishing.

My mother, in turn, was my mentor and a passionate teacher in the art of yoga and meditation. These amazing qualities combined with my profession as a psychologist involve every aspect of the mental, physical and spiritual in the healing process of my clients' problems.

I train daily in rain, wind and sunshine to enhance my skills and strengths. The weather elements are not my enemy, but my motivation and discipline.  One could practically say that I have been doing Qigong for well over 50 years developing the technique or modifying the ancient forms from 5000 years ago by studying the existing archives of the past.

There is not one perfect Qigong school of thought, but many different institutions or schools around the world who offer their kind of Qigong Teachings.

It is at the end an individual choice so long as one follows the general basics of correct breathing techniques, horse-stances or Mabu, the will to succeed and then build your solid house brick by brick until you are happy with your progress. It is a never-ending process which never ends. This is what makes Qigong so special. „We know that the roof of our house never gets to be built.“ This might frustrate many at the beginning.  I refer to this as working towards Nirvana; a place or state of being in peace or complete happiness with yourself.

I encourage my clients with this philosophy to work towards the healing process to balance mind, body and spirit with each other.

This form of health promotion can be practiced at all stages of life, no matter how old you are, whether you are fat or thin. I am 60 years old and am proud that I can share my experience and passion with all ages. But it takes discipline and hard training on a regular basis to keep the body in tune.

And this is why  it is the most beautiful and most exciting pleasure for me to share this passion as well as my South African experience with others. It is so exhilirating to witness and feel my clients improvement towards a better, more positive and healthier life.

This book depicts only a sample of some of the amazing choreography which Qigong has to offer.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cXA67l3kkSk
