Katori Hall – Playwright

Location: Miss Lily's in New York City

Columbia, Harvard and Juilliard educated, Katori Hall planned to be an actress until a fateful assignment at Harvard changed her direction. Instead, she became a playwright. Her play, The Mountaintop, about the final night before Martin Luther King’s assassination, won critical acclaim making her the first black woman to win the Olivier Award for Best New Play. Over Jamaican cuisine at Miss Lily's in New York City, Katori shares what shapes her thinking, how she views her role in the world and what success really means to her.
