Description

Catechism Class - LD6, Q18-19 Our Only Mediator.

The catechist wants us to ask, "But who is that Mediator who at the same time is true God and a true and righteous man?" He has been teaching us that in order to for us to be delivered from the dreadful consequences of our own sinful nature, we need a mediator, someone to represent us before God, one who is perfect man, without sin, and yet one who is fully God, able to bear in his human body the burden of God's wrath due to us, for our sins.  But who is this God-Man, this mediator?  His answer:-

A.Our Lord Jesus Christ, who has become for us wisdom from God – that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption.

How do we know this? Because we are taught it in the Gospel, which is proclaimed to us in every book of the Bible, fully inspired of God, and in the OT and NT pointing us to Our Lord Jesus Christ, our Saviour.  So Q.19, From where do you know this?

A.From the holy gospel, which God himself first revealed in Paradise.  Later, he had it proclaimed by the patriarchs and prophets, and foreshadowed by the sacrifices and other ceremonies of the law.  Finally, he had it fulfilled through his only Son.
