Description

I had a conversation with Quint Boa about his life, his issues with alcohol and his award winning animations about mental health.

Psychology

Quint has a long history within psychology and psychotherapy. Quint is the nephew of Jungian analysts and authors Marion Woodman & Fraser Boa. His mother is Cherry Boa, sister, Siobhan, both are psychotherapists.

Quint gained an M.A in Psychotherapy and Counselling in 1996. Also qualified in CBT and Psychometrics 16PF and Myers Briggs.

1996. Set up a private psychotherapy practice which he maintains to this day. Quint specialises in addiction and anxiety.

Life

Perhaps as a consequence of his actor father Bruce Boa (Empire Strikes Back, Fawlty Towers, Full Metal Jacket) Quint went into the film and television industry as an actor, presenter and voice over and sometime technician. In 1998 he was nominated for a BAFTA.

In 2000 Quint began Shoot You (www.shootyou.com) a Creative Agency in London, England. It focuses on using video and animation for business communication. It specialises in Financial, IT and the Healthcare sector. It took off, and now has offices in Amsterdam, New York and Los Angeles. It works with ten Fortune 500 companies.

Personal

Quint lives in London and is married with two teenage children.

He identifies as an alcoholic and has been sober for eight years.

During lockdown Quint responded to the ‘second pandemic’ of mental illness in children and young adults by producing an animation ‘Understanding Anger’.

This award winning animation led to a short series of other titles produced to help healthcare professionals and individuals address mental health issues during lockdown. These are free to use.

Quint started an IG account in April 2021 as a home for the animations and supplements this feed with to-camera interviews which hope to place some context around the animations.

The Future

Quint hopes to use animation to bring the latest research to life. To raise awareness and understanding of several mental health issues. And to play an active part in conversations around them.

Really hope you enjoy this conversation :)
