Description

This week Hannah and Stephanie return to an author they mentioned in the episode on O Caledonia: Maggie O’Farrell and her historical fiction novel, Hamnet. Will Stephanie appreciate her Shakespeare-loving friend’s assignment this week?

Everyone knows about Shakespeare, the man behind Macbeth, Romeo & Juliet, and, perhaps most famously, The Tragedy of Hamlet: Prince of Denmark. But what do we know about Agnes, the woman who married him, who took care of their home in Stratford while he made a name for himself in London, who bore his children, one of whom shared an eerily similar name to Shakespeare’s most famous protagonist and died at an early age? Join Hannah and Stephanie this week as they discuss Shakespeare, plague, and the reclamation of a woman’s story of love and grief in a time not so far removed from our own.
