Description

Today’s guest is Nicole Crentsil who truly is the definition of a multi-hyphenate BOSS. She’s the founder and curator of Unmasked Women, an exhibition that focuses on mental health through the lens of black British women. In 2018, Forbes listed her as one of 100 women to follow on Twitter and LinkedIn (I suggest everyone give it a follow - https://www.linkedin.com/in/nicole-krystal-crentsil-4008ab75/?originalSubdomain=uk).  Awarded as TimeOut's 1 of 50 Londoner’s shaping the city’s cultural landscape, she is an established public speaker, curator & the festival director of Black Girl Fest.

In today's episode we discuss her coping mechanisms and self care methods during lockdown (includes Ugly Betty & perfecting Banana Bread recipes), furthering conversations around mental health in black communities and how she uses her social media channels to be transparent and vulnerable with her followers. We discuss Nicole's upcoming project Big Sis which is a collaborative network that brings together women in creative industries for advice and support.

We also discuss her success with Black Girl Fest https://www.blackgirlfest.com/ and decision not to do the festival this year to focus on their fantastic academy programme which is a seven month community-focused creative programme in association with Apple and The Mayor of London aimed at young black women aged between 17-25.

*Since recording, Nicole has become an incredibly successful ANGEL investor, helping lots of black female-founded companies gain investment.
