THE SMILE AT ALEXANDRA PALACE 23RD MARCH: REVIEWED!
What an episode this is going to be!! A new era, even. Today is the day the CCCAH finally became a real podcast. Embracing a decades old tradition of any proud podcast-shaped programming.
So if it looks like a podcast episode reviewing Cheers and Travel Man and talks like a podcast episode reviewing Cheers and Travel Man and when we play it back, it sounds like a podcast episode, then ... then ... wait, exactly happened ... what even is this episode?!
Anyway, welcome to a showstopping show to end all shows! We saw a show at the world famous Alexandra Palace (aka Ally Pally) featuring one of our favourite bands and favourite musicians going back two decades: The Smile! So following on from our gig special seeing The Black Keys last season, your boys are back at it again. Attending live events. Seeing their faves in person for the umpteenth time. Catching bands live and in living colour. Vibing with the people. "Live music is better" as Neil Young so concisely put it.
News of new songs even made Stereogum, one of our favourite music sites: https://www.stereogum.com/2257246/watch-the-smile-debut-new-song-dont-get-me-started/news/
For the second time this season (at the request of a co-host) we will link to the Q&A with Edith Bowman that The Smile did at the Prince Charles Cinema upon the world debut playback of their new album Wall of Eyes: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6I8r3VCbItw&t=9s
So enjoy as we stroll down memory lane. Memory lane including houses with names like "a few days ago in Wood Lane" and "a few weeks ago in Hammersmith" and "a few months ago in Leicester Square" and "eighteen years ago in Hammersmith" and "twenty years ago on a plane from London to New York City".
