In the latest episode of the FILMS I OWN BUT HAVEN'T WATCHED YET podcast, a special spin-off from WN MOVIE TALK PODCAST, I dive into another film from my ever-expanding DVD collection. This week, I kick off a special Star Trek Week where I review one of the movies from the original series each day, starting with "Star Trek: The Motion Picture." Join me as I watch it for the first time and share my review!
Star Trek: The Motion Picture (1979): Directed by Robert Wise, this film marks the first feature-length adventure of the iconic crew from the original "Star Trek" television series. The story begins with a massive and mysterious alien cloud, known as V'Ger, heading towards Earth, destroying everything in its path. Admiral James T. Kirk (William Shatner) takes command of the newly refitted USS Enterprise to intercept and investigate the phenomenon. Joined by his trusted officers, including Spock (Leonard Nimoy), Dr. McCoy (DeForest Kelley), and others, Kirk and his crew embark on a perilous mission to save Earth and uncover the true nature of V'Ger. The film explores themes of exploration, identity, and the search for knowledge, all set against the backdrop of stunning visual effects and a memorable score by Jerry Goldsmith.
