Description

Joe Bishop breaks down the politics of children and children's rights with researcher and policymaker Bruce Lesley.

Growing up in a family of educators, Bruce has always been involved in child policy. He saw firsthand the importance of addressing the needs of kids and how kids are neglected in our nation’s policies. It is common that if you prompt people, they will say that they care deeply about various aspects of child policy. But kids quickly become an afterthought outside of educational policies.

How can we overcome the invisibility of children in policy? What is the Child Tax Credit? And, why did Congress abandon such an important policy in 2021?

Special Guest: Bruce Lesleyis the president of First Focus of Children, a research and policy development organization focused on improvements to public policy for children and families. He worked on Capitol Hill for a dozen years and has previous experience working at state and county levels of government and for a public hospital on policy development with an emphasis on child and family policy related to health care, social services, education, early childhood, and immigration policy.
