Description

Artist duo SASHAPASHA (Sasha and Pavel Rotts) talk us through their exhibition Fragile Narratives in Galleria Huuto in Helsinki, where they have mixed childhood artefacts, early artworks, inherited memories, and new works, referencing their combined history and a collective past. They take us on a journey through their childhood in the Soviet Union and their grandparents' relocation to Finland, and we discuss the current situation - at the time, Russias recent invasion of Ukraine, and Finland's upcoming decision regarding NATO membership - in relation to their personal generational war-trauma, and we talk about the history of other Russian border-regions. They explain about being Russian outside of Russia in this time, and how they protest oppression in their home country from abroad. We also talk about what it means to be a married artist duo, and how it is possible to share all aspects of life as a continuous collaboration.
