For the second movie in the Kiwi Cinema theme, we take a trip back in time, to the mid-1800s, and discover New Zealand in a different light. The Piano tells the story of an elective mute woman and her daughter who travel to a remote part of this beautiful, yet foreign land, as to accept the hand of Frontiersman as part of an arranged marriage. The Movie Newbie members recount and reminisce their Female Gaze theme with this episode as they discuss themes of womanhood, identity, and sexual desires. A movie they are going to have to revisit more than once in order to fully embody what it all means.
