The term ‘TikTok tics’ has been used to describe the tic-like behaviours, seen in young girls, that have been linked to the social media platform TikTok. However, according to consultant paediatric neurologist Dr Tammy Hedderly, this term is unhelpful because it undermines what can be a sign of ‘quite significant mental health needs’. In this episode, Dr Hedderly talks about the differences between these tic-like behaviours (functional tics) and Tourette syndrome.
Also in this episode, the medical editors review the different presentations of depression and what three things GPs should know about squamous cell carcinoma.
