The Great Gilly Hopkins is a novel for children about an 11-year-old girl named Gilly who is placed from foster home to foster home. She keeps a tough front but slowly falls for the love of her new foster family. Unfortunately, she sends a letter begging to live with her mother and exaggerates the negative state of the foster home and social services takes action.
