Being constantly aware of possible dangers and assuming every bush hid a beast kept us alive as a species for thousands of years. Time passed, the world changed, and although the chances of being mauled by a wild animal are non-existent, our brain keeps hanging on negative thoughts because it still believes it is what we'll keep us safe.
