"I don’t want to be vulnerable, words not in my vocabulary", explains Lisa Hepner, director of the The Human Trial. A movie driven by a desire to cure her own type 1 diabetes. Diabetes has been completely debilitating for Lisa, effecting her career trajectory, her personal and family life, and how to survive every day, making 180 decisions from the moment she wakes up. How does Lisa live with type 1 diabetes? How did the idea of her own journey spark the creation of the film? Why is diabetes debilitating? A question most of us don’t understand the answer to unless we either know someone or have it ourselves. She persisted. Keep persisting. Making this film for a decade, parallel with having this disease, it was a test of resilience, of perseverance for Lisa, and yet she persisted.
