In Episode 140 Baz is unwell leaving Chris to sail this week’s episode Solo. Chris shares the story of P&O’s S.S. Cathay, which encountered issues sailing to Fremantle back in 1934 which led to the first circum-navigation leisure cruise of Australia. Chris also brings the top three news stories of the week and a lovely listener comment about restoring a Titanic era ship in the Great Lakes
S.S. Keewatin restoration
Built in 1907 in Govan, Scotland KEEWATIN is the world’s last Edwardian (TITANIC-era) passenger steamship. Together with her sister ships she carried cruise ship passengers and cargo across the Upper Great Lakes between railheads until 1965. Saved from the scrapper on her retirement she was operated as a maritime museum in Saugatuck, MI for 45 years. Repatriated to her home of Port McNicoll in 2012 she was restored to her former glory by a small army of volunteers. And now she’s moving to the Marine Museum of the Great Lakes at Kingston, where she’ll re-open in 2024. https://youtu.be/P9qJU1errFg
