An Orthodox Catechism: Question 87

In this question, Collins states dogmatically a minority 17th century opinion that the Lord’s Supper must be closed with a hymn. This view is, again, a minority view, and its placement in the catechism this way is somewhat unusual. Though today, singing after the completion of the Lord’s Supper is extremely common, the case that such singing is strictly required by scripture seems somewhat dubious. Collins did include an appendix to his catechism arguing for this view which can be found at the link below.

An Orthodox Catechism was written by Hercules Collins in 1680 and is a revision of The Heidelberg Catechism, modified to reflect the views of Particular Baptists.

The edition of An Orthodox Catechism used for these recordings was edited by Michael A.G. Haykin and G. Stephen Weaver, Jr, published in 2014 by RBAP. It can be purchased from Amazon at the link below.
