2 Samuel 12:7-15 RVA2015:
Entonces Natán dijo a David: —Tú eres ese hombre. Así ha dicho el SEÑOR Dios de Israel: “Yo te ungí como rey sobre Israel y te libré de la mano de Saúl. Te di la casa de tu señor y puse las mujeres de tu señor en tu seno. Te di la casa de Israel y de Judá; y por si esto fuera poco, yo te habría añadido muchas otras cosas. ¿Por qué, pues, menospreciaste la palabra del SEÑOR e hiciste lo malo ante sus ojos? Has matado a espada a Urías el heteo; has tomado a su mujer por mujer tuya, y a él lo has matado con la espada de los hijos de Amón. Ahora pues, porque me has menospreciado y has tomado la mujer de Urías el heteo para que sea tu mujer, jamás se apartará la espada de tu casa. Así ha dicho el SEÑOR: He aquí yo levantaré contra ti el mal en tu propia casa. Ante tus propios ojos tomaré tus mujeres y las daré a tu prójimo, el cual se acostará con tus mujeres a la luz del sol. Ciertamente tú lo hiciste en secreto, pero yo haré esto ante todo Israel y en pleno día”. David respondió a Natán: —He pecado contra el SEÑOR. Y Natán dijo a David: —El SEÑOR también ha perdonado tu pecado; no morirás. Pero como en este asunto has hecho blasfemar a los enemigos del SEÑOR, el hijo que te ha nacido morirá irremisiblemente. Después Natán regresó a su casa. Entonces el SEÑOR hirió al niño que la mujer de Urías había dado a David, y enfermó de gravedad.

Ayer vimos la forma en que David planeó uno de los crímenes más vergonzosos en la historia de su vida. Todo comenzó con haber caído en la tentación y cuando trató de encubrirlo. El efecto bola de nieve se puede explicar fácilmente con este ejemplo que nos sirve como advertencia.
David fue imprudente en sus responsabilidades como rey, codicia a una mujer que él sabía que era casada. La embaraza y trata de engañar al marido para hacer pasar al bebé como si fuera de él. Al fracasar en este plan, decide sentenciarlo a muerte haciendo parecer que fue en la guerra, cuando fue él mismo quien dio la orden.
Hasta ahí parece que todo se arregló al casarse con la viuda y criar al bebé. Pero las consecuencias comenzaron nueve meses después, cuando David disfrutaba del nuevo hijo.
El profeta lo confrontó, David reconoció el error y Dios lo perdonó, pero las consecuencias también fueron claras: Lo que David hizo, un hijo suyo lo haría en público y con sus concubinas. En ese tiempo era tradición que el rey tuviera varías esposas para que le dieran mucha descendencia.
Además, David padecería mucho porque iba a sufrir asesinatos dentro de su propia casa: su hijo mata a su hermano. Ese mismo asesino, más adelante, intentaría darle un golpe de estado y humilló a su padre, forzándolo a huir de su propio palacio. Y David también sufriría la pérdida de ese hijo que moriría asesinado por el general del ejército.
David reinó sobre Israel por 40 años y esos años no fueron fáciles para él. Es por eso que David nunca se apartó del Dios que permitió que sufriera todas estas calamidades, porque David tenía claro que merecía la muerte pero que Dios, en su misericordia, lo había perdonado, y que esos sufrimientos no eran realmente castigos enviado por Dios como tortura, sino que eran las consecuencias naturales de sus propios actos porque todo lo bueno o malo que hagamos se multiplica, se regresa.
Es por eso que David adoró a Dios cuando escuchó que su hijo, el bebé producto del adulterio, falleció. David tenía la esperanza que lo volvería a ver cuando llegara a la morada de Dios.
Espero que hoy podamos visualizar la densidad de los problemas múltiples que podríamos estar ocasionando si nos salimos de la voluntad de Dios, si insistimos en dejarnos llevar por los impulsos y si damos rienda suelta a las pasiones de la carne. Por nuestro propio bien y de nuestra familia es mejor que desarrollemos el sentido común basado en la Palabra de Dios, ejercitemos el dominio propio que proviene de un corazón lleno del Espíritu Santo, y no olvidemos los dos primeros mandamientos más importantes que resume toda la ley de Dios: Ama a Dios con todo tu ser y sobre todas las cosas, y ama a tu prójimo como a ti mismo.
Si amas a Dios y a tu prójimo, no vas a hacer cosas que desagradan al Señor y que hieran a tu prójimo.

Then Nathan said to David, “You are the man! Thus says the Lord God of Israel: ‘I anointed you king over Israel, and I delivered you from the hand of Saul. I gave you your master’s house and your master’s wives into your keeping, and gave you the house of Israel and Judah. And if that had been too little, I also would have given you much more! Why have you despised the commandment of the Lord, to do evil in His sight? You have killed Uriah the Hittite with the sword; you have taken his wife to be your wife, and have killed him with the sword of the people of Ammon. Now therefore, the sword shall never depart from your house, because you have despised Me, and have taken the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be your wife.’ Thus says the Lord: ‘Behold, I will raise up adversity against you from your own house; and I will take your wives before your eyes and give them to your neighbor, and he shall lie with your wives in the sight of this sun. For you did it secretly, but I will do this thing before all Israel, before the sun.’ ”
So David said to Nathan, “I have sinned against the Lord.” And Nathan said to David, “The Lord also has put away your sin; you shall not die. However, because by this deed you have given great occasion to the enemies of the Lord to blaspheme, the child also who is born to you shall surely die.” Then Nathan departed to his house. And the Lord struck the child that Uriah’s wife bore to David, and it became ill.

Yesterday we saw how David planned one of the most shameful crimes in the history of his life. It all started when he fell into temptation and when he tried to cover it up. The snowball effect can be easily explained with this example that serves as a warning.
David was reckless in his responsibilities as king, coveting a woman he knew was married. He gets her pregnant and he did try to trick her husband into passing off the baby as his. Failing in this plan, he decided to sentence him to death making it appear that it was in the war, when it was he himself who gave the order.
So far it seems that everything was fixed by marrying the widow and raising the baby. But the consequences began nine months later, when David was enjoying the new son.
The prophet confronted him, David acknowledged his mistake and God forgave him, but the consequences were also clear: What David did, a son of his would do it in public and with his concubines. At that time it was a tradition for the king to have several wives so that they would give him many offspring.
Also, David would suffer a lot because he was going to suffer murders inside his own house: his son killed his brother. That same assassin would later attempt a coup and humiliate his father, forcing him to flee his own palace. And David would continue to suffer the loss of that son who would die assassinated by the general of the army.
David reigned over Israel for 40 years and those years were not easy for him. That is why David never turned away from the God who allowed him to suffer all these calamities, because David was clear that he deserved death but that God, in His mercy, had forgiven him, and that those sufferings were not really punishments sent by God as torture, but that they were the natural consequences of their own acts because everything good or bad that we do multiplies, comes back.
That is why David worshiped God when he heard that his son, the baby product of adultery, had passed away. David hoped that he would see him again when he got to God's dwelling place.
I hope that today we can visualize the density of multiple problems that we could be causing if we get out of the will of God, if we insist on letting ourselves be carried away by impulses and if we give free rein to the passions of the flesh. For our own good and that of our family, it is better that we develop common sense based on the Word of God, exercise self-control that comes from a heart filled with the Holy Spirit, and do not forget the first two most important commandments that summarize the entire law of God: Love God with all your being and above all things, and love your neighbor as yourself.
If you love God and your neighbor, you will not do things that displease the Lord and hurt your neighbor.
