He shows how baptism marks the end of the life without Jesus and the start of new life in Him. He then explains that this pattern of repenting from sin and turning to Christ, of receiving forgiveness and trusting in the Holy Spirit's power to change us are the life of a discipleship. There is no life with Jesus without daily repentance and faith.
