Adrian Rollini’s goofus graces this great Ellington hit. Maybe Ellington had heard Prince of Wails and Copenhagen and wrote a tune to complete the trilogy, Choo Choo. These three top instrumental tunes of 1924 were almost identical. Here is the alto saxophone and clarinet voice of rock star Bobby Davis with Adrian Rollini as reed duet and Bill Moore on trumpet playing off both. Also here is Doc Cook with Keppard. Tram with Bix, Rube Bloom and Miff Mole, etc. Morton’s arrangement of Tiger Rag is noteworthy although poorly preserved on this recording. And Snake Rag rocks in rhythm in the Oliver blues band style.
