Bessie Smith played the kazoo. Cliff Edwards and Red McKenzie vocals fit the kazoo paradigm. Which includes virtuoso accompaniment by Eddie Lang, or Edwards’ hot ukulele. The Ramblers included comic novelty sounds from drummer vocalist Stan King. With Rollini the bass sax is a big kazoo. Rollini also played second kazoo behind King. Red Nichols on the Welk show in the 50’s still carried a bass sax. In Rollini you have a bass sax claiming lead status in a quintet. In Bobby Davis you have fun alto altitude and his comic clarinet blowing much like Redman’s. The goofus of Rollini stops everything to say come downstairs and see our model trains in the basement. And Bill Moore is the lead voice like Groucho with his brothers.
