Description

Mostly bands in or around Chicago in 1923: Jelly Roll Morton, King Oliver's Creole Jazz Band, the New Orleans Rhythm Kings, the Original Memphis Five and The Original Memphis Melody Boys. Featured artists include: Arville Harris, Natty Dominique, Louis Armstrong, Johnny Dodds, Lil Hardin, Baby Dodds, Honore Dutrey, Paul Mares, Leon Roppolo, George Brunies,Phil Napoleon, Elmer Schoebel. Here was the year where it came together like a Summer of Love. New Orleans diaspora started far earlier with Morton and Ory on the road or Keppard. But with Chicago and then New York in play as permanent locales, New Orleans was somewhat drained, still important in the manufacture of great musicians but pointing forward with Louie Prima to the invention of rock n roll by among others Fats Domino.
