Several tunes here are attributed to Spencer Williams although maybe not with his direct input such as Put and Take. He created early hits like I Ain’t Got Nobody and Tishomingo Blues, shimme sha wabble and Royal Garden Blues. Everybody Loves My Baby is included. He provided Jazz with a truly great homegrown (Southern) composer of hit tunes alongside the New York Gershwins and Broadway. Ory, Oliver, Handy, Armstrong, Morton, many others could write great songs but Spencer Williams was not really a performer but a writer that the performers drew upon for standards.
