An interesting dynamic happens when you bring the American lack of racial equity into Mexican culture against black immigrants. The black immigrants come to expect the lack of racial equity through a bias built from simply existing in America. And no matter how much you try to turn that bias off, it can still show up to protect our sanity, even when there is racial equity. Should we let our guard down in this new environment? Is this vigilance still needed at the same level we needed it in America? Is it bias or a necessary protection in a racist world.
