Description

Bass rhythms are important to me, and the bassist whose records I've listened to most is the late Robbie Shakespeare, half of Sly & Robbie. He played on thousands of sessions in Jamaica, and if you've got any reggae discs, he'll likely be on half of them. Here's a few tunes in tribute, end-to-end. Lots more to come, as long as I'm broadcasting!I've chosen some of my favourites, some lesser-known, for example the obscure and astonishing Sidewalk Doctor cut, hard to find and based on the Smokey Robinson tune Get Ready, originally by the Temptations.ROBBIE SHAKESPEARE TRIBUTE mixGregory Isaacs – Soon Forward – Gregory Isaacs Showcase LP – TaxiBlack Uhuru – Leaving To Zion – Black Uhuru Showcase LP – D-RoyIni Kamoze – World-A-Music – Ini Kamoze Mini LP – IslandAugustus Pablo – King Tubby Meets The Rockers Uptown - King Tubby Meets The Rockers Uptown CD – ShanachieRevolutionaries – Kunta Kinte Dub – Drum Sound: More Gems From The Channel One Dub Room 1974 to 1980 CD – Pressure Sounds - https://pressuresounds.bandcamp.com/album/drum-sound Sly & Robbie – Sidewalk Doctor – Disco Dub LP – GorgonJunior Byles – Fade Away – Reggae Anthology: The Channel One Story 2xCD – VPIni Kamoze – General - Ini Kamoze Mini LP – IslandSly & Robbie with Manu Dibango – Superthruster / Version – Palm Pictures 12"Frankie Paul – Worries In The Dance - Reggae Anthology: The Channel One Story 2xCD – VPViceroys – Heart Made Of Stone – Sly & Robbie: Unmetered Taxi CD – Pressure SoundsSly & Robbie – Unmetered Taxi– Sly & Robbie: Unmetered Taxi CD – Pressure Sounds
