Storytelling, it’s long been essential to the survival, spiritual nourishment and cultural evolution of humanity. For millennia, stories have informed, guided and inspired us, terrified and comforted us. Across this continent and its islands, First Nations People have an oral tradition of storytelling that is passed down through generations. In recognition of this unbroken tradition I’d like to acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land on which this podcast is recorded, the Bunurong people, the Boon Wurrung people and the Gunai Kurnai people, the original storytellers of these lands. People who continue to live on and have a constant connection with this land, who have cared for and shared the lands and stories with one another. I’d like to honour them and their elders, past, present and emerging.
Always was, always will be, Aboriginal land.
Hello, welcome to the Gentle Art of Life and Curiosity, a storytelling podcast which explores the themes of belonging, isolation, joy and awe, culture, art, history and identity and so much more! We all have a story. I think so many of us believe that unless we are a celebrity or an expert in some area of expertise, our stories aren’t so valuable. But that's not been my experience. I know that storytelling from the heart has the power to heal, inspire and move mountains.
I moved to Venus Bay in 2022, but I’ve had a home here since 2014 and I moved here because the environment reminds me so much of Tassie, where I grew up. But there’s also something very healing about this country and I’m curious to know who lives here, why and what stories we can share with one another. So join me as we hear from a range of wonderful humans who live, work and explore on this wild, diverse, extraordinary country and community of South Gippsland.
I’m Beck Robertson, and this is the Gentle Art of Life and Curiosity.

Thanks to the Tarwin Lower Memorial Hall for hosting the project and for offering me a residency to create alongside so many other wonderful artists. Thanks especially to all of my guests. It’s been such a delight to chat with you.
The Art of Life and Curiosity is produced by me, Beck Robertson and has been beautifully edited by my good friend Simon Murphy from SMR Productions. Thanks Simon.
