Video games are known for a lot of different reasons. There’s the interactive storytelling. There’s gorgeous computer rendered graphics. There’s the various systems that coalesce into a fun gameplay loop. But perhaps the thing that has arguably defined video games in pop culture more than any other aspect has been a little thing called the Boss. Bosses and Boss battles are one of, if not, the most recognizable phrases in all of pop culture. When you say the phrase boss battle, people inherently know what you’re talking about. It has become ubiquitous, but still bosses are something somewhat unique to games. So today, we’re gonna deep dive into video game bosses. Where did they come from? What makes a good boss? And possibly the most important question of all, what are some of our favorite bosses?
