All stories no matter the medium have patterns set within them. Joseph Campbell’s 1949 book, The Hero With A Thousand Faces, showcased just how universal storytelling is. In fact, the entire Star Wars saga is based, in part, on the teachings of that book. So what does that all entail? Well, mostly, the book detailed a sort of structure that had been apparent in storytelling for centuries, one often referred to as the Hero’s Journey. The Hero’s Journey is an extremely useful tool in realizing what can work within a given story. With that all said, the hero’s journey doesn’t work without a hero. Well what makes a hero? Or better yet, what makes a protagonist? And even better yet, what makes a compelling VIDEO GAME protagonist?
On top of that, the boys discuss some more wrestling, a couple of movies including my descent into the Evangelion Rebuild movies. We’ll also be discussing even more Persona thanks to Austin convincing Dylan to become a weeb. Then of course we have our regularly scheduled picks of the week.
