In this live devotional session of The Clarion Call, host Nici Mathis unpacks the powerful connection between willpower, grace, and fasting as revealed in scripture.
Beginning with Revelation 22:14–15, Nici reminds listeners that obedience, repentance, and holiness are required to “wash our robes.” Yet, as Paul confesses in Romans 7:18–19, human willpower is not enough to sustain righteousness. True transformation requires supernatural grace.
Drawing from Mark 9:29 (NKJV), Nici highlights Jesus’ words: “This kind can come out by nothing but prayer and fasting.” Fasting, therefore, is not a religious ritual or diet but a spiritual weapon that dismantles strongholds, aligns us with God’s empowerment, and opens the door for breakthrough.
Scriptures such as Joel 2:12–13, Matthew 6:16–18, Isaiah 58:6–9, and Galatians 2:20 further reveal that fasting is a call to surrender our flesh, deepen intimacy with God, and walk in freedom. Nici shares personal testimonies—including fasting for her daughter’s deliverance—and emphasizes that fasting must always be paired with prayer and the Word, otherwise it is just dieting.
Listeners are challenged to invite the Holy Spirit into their fasting journey, start where they are, and grow into a lifestyle of consecration.
