‘It’s natural for them to want me to be what they thought of as happy.’

‘I felt like I wanted to be honest with one of my parents about that aspect of me while one of them was still around.’

‘There’s that sort of silent expectation that you’ve always experienced with your parents, even though they weren’t overly controlling and demanding of you. There did seem to be something that you developed, a sense within yourself that there was an expectation from them, that maybe led to a difficulty with acceptance from yourself.’
