Description

Welcome to a holiday edition of Emotional Support Water Bottle! We’re cozied up next to our Christmas tree with some cookies and a cocktail in hand! Since the holidays are a busy time, we decided to record a little early this week and watch a movie we mentioned in a previous episode of the podcast. Yes, there have been some mixed reviews of May December, but we wanted to watch it to judge for ourselves.

For those who don’t know, May December is loosely based on the story of 34-year-old Mary Kay Letourneau’s romantic relationship with her then 12-year-old student, Vili Fualaau. Letourneau was jailed twice for her sexual relationship with Vili, gave birth to their two daughters while in jail, and married Vili after she was released. The movie follows Gracie and Joe (Mary Kay and Vili) and their young adult children as actress Elizabeth (Natalie Portman) prepares for an upcoming movie where she will play Gracie. While observing and getting to know Gracie (Julianne Moore) and Joe (Charles Melton), Elizabeth finds herself getting more and more entranced by the “character” of Gracie. Both Gracie and Joe’s mental instability are also made clear as the film continues, with Joe breaking down and questioning his life/marriage to Gracie. This movie was filled with so much tension, it could be felt through the screen. It’s safe to say that this movie was very thought provoking and left us with more questions than answers. Have you seen May December? If so, let us know what you thought in the comments. We also have a special guest coming up, so mark your calendars for next Friday! Don’t forget to interact with us by answering the Q&A, and leaving reviews on the podcast in general. We love to hear your feedback! So grab your water bottles, and look out for new episodes every Friday!

Recommendation: May December (if you have interest in the Mary Kay Letourneau case)
