EP 80: Setting up social enterprise Abtaluna with Lama Andari

In this week’s podcast episode I talk with Lama the founder of social enterprise @abtaluna.

A philanthropist at heart, Lama Andari has spent her life supporting youth, as well as various social and community causes. When her son was diagnosed with cancer, she felt a strong urge to play an active role in raising awareness of childhood cancer and the importance of well-being. She is an advocate for kids fighting cancer and believes that they are true superheroes - resilient, determined and brave.

When her son completed the first year of treatment, she started writing the first words of her 'Super Kids' book, a children’s book on childhood cancer. The book is engaging and unique as it is illustrated by a talented 12-year-old girl in Dubai called Malak Jundi. Lama then also founded a social enterprise in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, called 'Abtaluna' which means 'Our Superheroes' in Arabic.

Lama shares Abtaluna’s mission and the impact it’s already creating in the community. She also shares how we can all get involved to support this great cause.

Lama then also founded a social enterprise in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, called 'Abtaluna' which means 'Our Superheroes' in Arabic. It connects families whose children are fighting cancer and also raises awareness about pediatric cancer. She believes that caregivers, in particular parents, are also Super Humans - juggling their lives while taking care of loved ones and they deserve every bit of support and care. Abtaluna focuses on providing psychological support for the children, their siblings and parents through partnerships, as well as organising events and workshops.
