Description

A 9-year-old boy, Bradley Nelson, has died due to complications from an attack by his father, Darren Spreadbury, when Bradley was just 7 months old. The incident, which occurred in April 2016 at their home in Whitby, England, left Bradley brain-damaged, blind, and with severe disabilities. He was diagnosed with cerebral palsy and epilepsy after the attack, which was caused by shaken baby syndrome. Spreadbury was found guilty of grievous bodily harm with intent in 2018 and was sentenced to four years in prison, along with a 10-year restraining order. However, he served only two years of his sentence. Bradley's mother, Sharon Boocock, dedicated much of her life to caring for her son, who was hospitalized multiple times due to his complex medical needs. Bradley was hospitalized again on October 21, 2024, after contracting a virus, and he later suffered a severe epileptic seizure and two heart attacks, leading to his death on October 22, 2024. North Yorkshire Police have reopened the case to determine if further charges should be filed. A GoFundMe page was set up to raise funds for Bradley's funeral and has garnered over £8,000 to date.
