Illinois Second Judicial Circuit Court Judge Michael J. Valentine was found fatally shot outside his home in Albion, Illinois, on the afternoon of Tuesday, November 5, 2024. Following an investigation, his wife, Megan S. Valentine, 44, was arrested and charged with multiple criminal offenses, including first-degree murder, aggravated battery with a firearm, aggravated discharge of a firearm, and aggravated domestic battery. The discovery was made by an Edwards County Sheriff's deputy who responded to the scene around 12:15 p.m. The Illinois State Police presented their case to the Illinois State's Attorney Appellate Prosecutor's Office, leading to the filing of the charges on November 7, 2024. Megan Valentine is currently being held at the White County Jail, and it is unclear if she has entered a plea or retained an attorney. Judge Valentine was remembered as a distinguished jurist known for his pursuit of justice and his compassion, and he is survived by his parents, two children, and other loved ones.
