Description

Sarah Churchill began life as the daughter of a minor landowner, and rose to become the richest woman in England. Her influence over Queen Anne was so great she effectively ran the Queens private life, and in the process gained a lot of power, prestige and wealth. Her husband was also an impressive figure, John Churchill became one of Englands greatest military leaders and through his hard work and Sarahs relationship with the Queen they became a Duke and Duchess. Sarahs later life however was one of grievance and stress, as she fought with her family, servants and architects over anything and everything. She left two enduring legacies; Blenheim Palace, the enormous residence she constructed in honour of her husbands military victory, and her descendant Sir Winston Churchill.
