Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema have officially greenlit a third Mortal Kombat film, with Jeremy Slater returning to write the script after working on Mortal Kombat II[1]. This announcement was made at New York Comic Con 2025, according to a Deadline report[1]. The decision comes as Mortal Kombat II is still months away from release, following the success of the 2021 reboot, which was HBO Max's biggest film launch at the time and grossed $84 million globally[1]. Mortal Kombat II, starring Lewis Tan and Karl Urban, among others, is set for release on May 15, 2026, after a production delay due to the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike[1].
