Continuing the celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, the ladies partake in some magical realism with the classic Like Water For Chocolate by Laura Esquivel. Taking place during the Mexican revolution, the novel presents life and love in a small family at the very beginning of the 20th century. Spanning a generation, the novel (and subsequent film) depict gender differences, cultural expectations, and familial tradition with a forbidden love story running throughout. It has been decided that Pedro can “get it,” neither lady can pronounce foreign words (please don’t hate us), and they may have used a few choice words to describe a certain character (seriously, yeet her into the sun).
