Description

On November fifth, a trade between the Buffalo Sabres and Utah Mammoth sparked controversy, but both teams are now reaping benefits. Restricted free agent winger J. J. Peterka, traded to Utah, signed a five-year, thirty-seven point five million dollar deal and is excelling with ten points in thirteen games. Meanwhile, defenseman Michael Kesselring, acquired by Buffalo, is thriving alongside Bowen Byram. The real surprise is Josh Doan, who, like Peterka, has nine points in thirteen games, playing on the Sabres second line. Doans success is attributed to playing with skilled teammates. The trade was partly due to Peterkas desire for a long-term contract, which Buffalo preferred to offer as a bridge deal. Financially, the trade benefits Buffalo, as Doan and Kesselring are in the final years of their contracts and will be restricted free agents after this season.
