Description

Los Angeless Weingart Center, a major homeless service provider, has received over $100 million in taxpayer funds despite failing to meet federal audit requirements since early 2022. The nonprofit has been out of compliance with deadlines to submit crucial financial reviews, highlighting multiple failures in accounting for public money. Despite this, the organization continued to receive substantial funding, including a $9 million no-bid contract in 2023. The president and CEO, along with the chief of real estate development, have been placed on leave. Additionally, the Weingart Center is under federal investigation for a controversial property purchase involving a senior living facility. The Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority is now evaluating options to prevent similar issues in the future.
