Description

Southwest Detroit just broke ground on its first-ever access point to the Rouge River! The new Fort Street Bridge Park will feature a kayak launch and observation deck, transforming the once-industrial riverfront into a recreational haven. After 25 years in the making, this project, spearheaded by Friends of the Rouge, is set to revitalize the community, offering residents like Calvin Pearson new opportunities for outdoor activities and providing a much-needed gathering space funded in part by the Gilbert Family Foundation. It’s more than just a park; it’s a chance for southwest Detroit to reconnect with its history and embrace the Rouge River.
