Description

Tucson Police Chief Chad Kasmar expresses concern over the Trump administrations handling of U visas, which are designed to protect immigrant crime victims. Despite these visas being intended to encourage reporting of crimes without fear of deportation, reports indicate that individuals with pending U and T visas are being detained and deported. This practice undermines trust within immigrant communities and hinders law enforcement efforts. New findings reveal a proposal to eliminate U and T visas entirely in Project two thousand twenty-five. In response, Representative Jimmy Panetta has reintroduced the Immigrant Witness and Victim Protection Act to address backlogs, lift caps, and prevent detention or deportation before applications are granted.
