Description

On November twelfth, the U.S. Mint ceased production of the one-cent coin, or penny, due to its rising production costs and diminishing value. The last pennies were auctioned off, saving taxpayers fifty-six million dollars. While pennies remain legal tender, their practical use has largely faded, marking a significant shift in American currency and reflecting a cultural shift towards digital transactions.
