On Veterans Day, a centenarian WWII veteran, Howard Requard, was honored at Dixie Heights High School. The event, filled with patriotic songs and skits, paid tribute to dozens of service members. Requard, a Marine Corps veteran, enlisted eight decades ago and saw action in the Battle of Okinawa. Actor Gary Sinise sent a moving video tribute. Requards grandson, Gentry Messmer, shared the significance of the event, as his grandfather turned 100. Governor Andy Beshear expressed gratitude to Requard and all veterans for their heroic sacrifices.
