Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton and Texas Techs Chairman of the Board of Regents, Cody Campbell, have expressed concerns over a new agreement from the College Sports Commission (CSC). The CSC, a new enforcement agency for college sports, has sent out a participation agreement asking universities to give up their right to challenge future penalties in court. This move would grant the CSC more power to investigate and punish rule breakers, especially in the new era of Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) deals. Paxton has urged universities and other state attorneys general to oppose this agreement, stating it grants almost unlimited authority to the commission and could seriously undermine the universities that sign it. Campbell has also refused to sign the agreement in its current form, emphasizing the need for rules that follow state law and university bylaws, and inviting a constructive discussion about creating a revised set of rules and regulations.
