Michelino Sunseri, a professional mountain runner, received a presidential pardon after a year-long legal battle stemming from his record-setting speed run on the Grand Teton. Despite setting a new fastest known time, his accomplishment was overshadowed by controversy as Fastest Known Time refused to acknowledge his time due to cutting a switchback on his descent. Sunseri argues that the Old Climbers Trail has been used by speed runners since 1939 and believes Fastest Known Time and Outdoor Magazine are trying to erase this history. The case went to trial, and Sunseri was found guilty of a class B misdemeanor, but a presidential pardon was granted last week. Sunseri and his team are now in post-production for a documentary about the entire ordeal, titled Racing the Grand Teton.
